Use any weight of yarn, just read the label to see which size of crochet hook you have to use. With DK knitting yarn one repetition is about 8 cm.
Abbreviations
ch st – chain stitch
ch st-sp – chain stitch space
gps – groups
rep – repeat
sl st – slip stitch
tr – treble crochet
Instructions
Crochet a row of chain stitches in multiples of 12 plus 9 in the width you want your blanket to be.
1st row: 2 ch st, 1 tr in 3rd ch st from hook and in each ch st to end. (Make sure it’s a multiple of 12 plus 9 tr.)
2nd row: 2 ch st (count as tr), 2 tr in 1st tr, *skip 1 tr, 3 tr in next tr, skip 1 tr, (3 tr, 3 ch st, 3 tr) in next tr, skip 1 tr, 3 tr in next tr, skip 1 tr, 3 tr in next tr, skip 3 tr, 3 tr in next tr, rep from * to last 8 tr, skip 1 tr, 3 tr in next tr, skip 1 tr, (3 tr, 3 ch st, 3 tr) in next tr, skip 1 tr, 3 tr in next tr, skip 1 tr, 3 tr in last tr.
3rd row: sl st to between 1st tr-gps, 2 ch st, 2 tr in same sp, 3 tr between next tr-gps, *(3 tr, 3 ch st, 3 tr) in 3 ch st-sp, (3 tr between next tr-gps) twice, skip 2 tr-gps, (3 tr between next tr-gps) twice, rep from * and end with (3 tr, 3 ch st, 3 tr) in 3 ch st-sp, (3 tr between next tr-gps) twice.
