Materials
MoYa 100% cotton yarn DK (50 g balls): 7 balls Taupe, 0.5 m thin, soft linen, 3.25 mm crochet hook, pointy crochet hook (to crochet through material), needle for weaving in threads, marker that will fade Size Length = 63 cm; circumference = 98 cm
Abbreviations and stitch explanation
beg = begin; ch st = chain stitch; cl = cluster; c/off = cast off; dc = double crochet; rep = repeat; rnd = round; RS = right side; sl st = slip stitch; sp(s) = space(s); st = stitch; tr = treble crochet; WS = wrong side
Cluster:
1 Draw the yarn over the hook and insert it in the following stitch.
2 Do not finish the stitch so that there are two loops on the hook.
3 Crochet the next stitch in the same way so that there are three loops on the hook.
4 Draw the yarn over the hook and pull it through all the loops on the hook.
Method
Crocheted square (= 43 squares) Start with 5 ch st, sl st in 1st ch st to make a ring.
1st rnd: 1 ch st, 8 dc in ring, sl st in 1st dc.
2nd rnd: (3 ch st, 2 tr-cl in same st, 3 ch st, sl st in next dc) 8 times, ending with sl st in beg-sl st.
3rd rnd: (5 ch st, 1 dc in next cl) 2 times, [2 ch st, 1 tr in next ch st (= between 2 petals), 2 ch st, 1 dc in next cl, 5 ch st, 1 dc in next cl] 3 times, 2 ch st, sl st in 3rd of beg-5 ch st.
4th rnd: 1 ch st, 1 dc in same st, (5 ch st, 1 dc in next 5 ch st-sp, 5 ch st, 1 dc in same 5 ch st-sp, 5 ch st, 1 dc in tr) 3 times, 5 ch st, 1 dc in next 5 ch st-sp, 5 ch st, 1 dc in same 5 ch st-sp, 5 ch st, sl st in beg-dc.
5th rnd: 3 ch st, (3 tr in 5 ch st-sp, 1 tr in next dc, 5 tr in next 5 ch st-sp, 1 tr in next dc, 3 tr in next 5 ch st-sp, 1 tr in next dc) 3 times, 3 tr in next 5 ch st-sp, 1 tr in next dc, 5 tr in next 5 ch st-sp, 1 tr in next dc, 3 tr in next 5 ch st-sp, sl st at top of beg-3 ch st.
6th rnd: 1 ch st, 1 dc in same st, 1 dc in next 6 tr, 2 dc in next tr, (1 dc in next 13 tr, 2 dc in next tr) 3 times, 1 dc in next 6 tr, sl st in 1st dc = 60 dc.
7th rnd: (This rnd is only crocheted over the 1st square. From the 2nd and following squares onwards they are crocheted together.) 1 dc in next dc, 3 ch st, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc, 3 ch st, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc, 3 ch st, 1 dc in same dc, [(3 ch st, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc) 5 times, 3 ch st, 1 dc in same dc] 3 times, (3 ch st, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc) 2 times, 3 ch st, skip 2 dc, sl st in beg-dc. C/off.
Attaching squares to each other
7th rnd: 1 dc in next dc, 3 ch st, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in vlg kb, 3 ch st, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc, 1 ch st, 1 ch st through the corner 3 ch st-sp of previous square, back with 1 ch st, 1 dc in same dc, (1 ch st, 1 ch st through next 3 ch st-sp of previous square, back with 1 ch st, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc) 5 times, 1 ch st, 1 ch st through the corner 3 ch st-sp of previous square, 1 ch st, 1 dc in same dc, finish off as described. Note that the squares in the middle have to be attached on more than one side.
Material squares (= 17 squares – only in front)
Fold material with right sides together and cut out 10.5 cm x 10.5 cm squares. Sew a hem of 0.5 cm all around but leave an opening to turn it inside out. Cut the corners, and turn the square inside out and sew a hem around it. Mark each corner with a marker and divide each side in 5 equal parts and mark them with a dot. Crochet with a pointy crochet hook 1 dc in the corner, *(3 ch st, 1 dc in next dot) 5 times, 3 ch st, 1 dc in same st; rep from * around, ending with sl st in 1st dc. C/off. Weave in all loose threads.
Bottom edge
With RS facing, start at 1st 3 ch st-sp of a square:
1st rnd: 3 ch st, 2 tr in same 3 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, (3 tr in next 3 ch st-sp) 2 times, 1 ch st, (3 tr in next 3 ch st-sp) 2 times, 1 tr in corner sp, 1 tr in st between 2 squares, 1 tr in next corner sp of next square, *3 tr in next 3 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, (3 tr in next 3 ch st-sp) 2 times, 1 ch st, (3 tr in next 3 ch st-sp) 2 times, 1 tr in corner sp, 1 tr in st between 2 squares, 1 tr in next corner sp of next square; rep from * to end, ending with sl st at top in beg-3 ch st.
2nd rnd: sl st in next 2 tr and in 1 ch st-sp, 3 ch st, (2 tr, 2 ch st, 3 tr) in same 1 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, *skip 6 tr, (3 tr, 2 ch st, 3 tr) in next 1 ch st-sp, 1 ch st; rep from * to end, ending with ch st at top in beg-3 ch st.
3rd rnd: sl st in next 2 tr and in 2 ch st-sp, 3 ch st, (2 tr, 2 ch st, 3 tr) in same 2 ch st-sp, 4 ch st, *(3 tr, 2 ch st, 3 tr) in next 2 ch st-sp, 4 ch st; rep from * to end, ending with sl st at top in beg-3 ch st.
4th rnd: sl st in next 2 tr and in 2 ch st-sp, 3 ch st, (2 tr, 2 ch st, 3 tr) in same 2 ch st-sp, 3 ch st, 1 dc over 4 ch st and at the same time over the 1 ch st of rnd 2, 3 ch st, *(3 tr, 2 ch st, 3 tr) in next 2 ch st-sp, 3 ch st, 1 dc over the 4 ch st and at the same time over the 1 ch st of rnd 2, 3 ch st; rep from * to end, ending with sl st at top in beg-3 ch st. C/off.
Sleeve edges
Start at bottom of sleeve.
1st rnd: as bottom edge.
2nd rnd: as bottom edge.
3rd rnd: sl st in next 2 tr as well as in 2 ch st-sp, 3 ch st, (2 tr, 2 ch st, 3 tr) in same 2 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, 1 dc in next 1 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, *(3 tr, 2 ch st, 3 tr) in next 2 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, 1 dc in next 1 ch st-sp, 1 ch st; rep from * to end, ending with sl st at top in beg-3 ch st. C/off.
Neck edge
Start on left shoulder with 1 dc in joint between 2 squares.
