Crochet a colourful patchwork waistcoat

- ELLE PURE GOLD DK (100 g balls): 1 ball each Chilli and Terracota and 2 balls Titanium
- ELLE CLASSIC WOOL BLEND (100 g balls): 1 ball Salsa
- 3.5 mm crochet hook
- Needle for tidying up work

Method
1st square (crochet 32)
Complete the 1st square to the end of rnd 6. From the 2nd square each square is crocheted on to the other in the last rnd. With Salsa, start with 5 ch st, sl st in 1st ch st to make a ring.
1st rnd: 3 ch st, 2 tr in ring, (3 ch st, 3 tr in ring) 3 times, 3 ch st, sl st in 3rd of beg-3 ch st. C/off.
2nd rnd: With Titanium, start in any 3 ch sp; 3 ch st, 2 tr in same sp, [1 ch st, (3 tr, 3 ch st, 3 tr) in next 3 ch st-sp] 3 times, 1 ch st, 3 tr and 3 sch st in 1st 3 ch st-sp, sl st at top in beg-3 ch st. C/off.
3rd rnd: With Terracota, start in any 3 ch st-sp; 3 ch st, 2 tr in same sp, [1 ch st, 1 tr in middle tr of 1st rnd (Salsa) (= spike stitch), 1 ch st, (3 tr, 3 ch st, 3 tr) in next 3 ch st-sp] 3 times, 1 ch st, 1 spike st, 1 ch st, 3 tr and 3 ch st in 1st 3 ch st-sp, sl st in top of 3rd of beg-3 ch st. C/off.
4th rnd: With Chilli, start in any 3 ch st-sp; 3 ch st, 2 tr in same sp, [1 ch st, 3 tr in next 1 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, 3 tr in next 1 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, (3 tr, 3 ch st, 3 tr) in next 3 ch st-sp] 3 times, 1 ch st, 3 tr in next 1 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, 3 tr in next 1 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, 3 tr and 3 ch st in 1st 3 ch st-sp, sl st at top of 3rd of beg-3 ch st. 2nd square
Crochet as 1st square to end of 5th rnd.
6th rnd: With Salsa, start in any 3 ch st-sp; 3 ch st, 2 tr in same sp, (1 ch st, 3 tr in next 1 ch st-sp) 4 times, 1 ch st, 3 tr in next 3 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, 1 ch st through the 3 ch st-sp of 1st square, 1 ch st, 3 tr in same 3 ch st-sp of 2nd square, (1 ch st through next 1 ch st-sp of 1st square, 3 tr in next 1 ch st-sp of 2nd square) 4 times, 1 ch st through next 1 ch st-sp of 1st square, 3 tr in 3 ch st-sp of 2nd square, 1 ch st, 1 ch st through 3 ch st-sp of 1st square, 1 ch st, 3 tr in same 3 ch st-sp of 2nd square, complete the rnd as described in 6th rnd. Join all the squares in this way. In the 2nd row of squares join each square on 2 sides. Remember to join the shoulder seams too. (See sketch).
Collar
Crochet the collar across the top 4 squares. With WSF and using Titanium:
1st row: Attach yarn in 1st of 4 squares in the 3 ch st-sp (corner) with 3 ch st, 2 tr in same sp, (1 ch st, 3 tr in next 1 ch st-sp) 5 times, 1 ch st, 3 tr in 3 ch st-sp, [1 ch st, 3 tr in 3 ch st-sp of next square, (1 ch st, 3 tr in next 1 ch st-sp) 5 times, 1 ch st, 3 tr in 3 ch st-sp] 3 times, turn (= 28 tr groups).
2nd row: *3 ch st, 1 tr in next 1 ch st-sp *, rep from * to * to end, 1 dc in beg-3 ch st, turn.
3rd row: 3 ch st, 2 tr in 3 ch st-sp, 1 ch st, * 3 tr in 3 ch st-sp, 1 ch st *, rep from * to * to end, turn. Rep rows 2 and 3 four times and then row 2 once. C/off. With RSF, join Titanium to bottom of collar and crochet 3 ch st, 2 tr in the one leg of 3 tr, (1 ch st, 3 tr in next sp) 5 times, (3 tr, 1 ch st, 3 tr) in corner sp, (1 ch st, 3 tr in 3 ch st-sp) 26 times, 1 ch st, (3 tr, 1 ch st, 3 tr) in corner sp, (1 ch st, 3 tr in next sp) 6 times. C/off.
Edge
With RSF and Titanium, crochet 1 rnd tr around waistcoat as follows: Start with 3rd square from bottom at left front.
1st rnd: 1 dc in sp between the 2 squares, 26 dc across 15 sides of the squares, 26 dc along short side of collar, 120 dc across the length of the collar, 26 dc along short side of collar, 26 dc across next side of square, sl st in 1st dc.
2nd rnd: 3 ch st, 1 tr in same st, [skip 2 dc, (2 tr, 1 ch st, 2 tr) in next dc, skip 2 dc, 1 tr in next 2 dc] 11 times, 3 tr in corner dc 1 tr in next 2 dc, [skip 2 dc, (2 tr, 1 ch st, 2 tr) in next dc, skip 2 dc, 1 tr in next 2 dc] 29 times, 3 tr in corner-dc, 1 tr in next 2 dc, [skip 2 dc, (2 tr, 1 ch st, 2 tr) in next dc, skip 2 dc, 1 tr in next 2 dc] 11 times, turn.

Join yarn to bottom of collar and crochet 1 dc in each 26 dc of the square, 4 dc along short side of front edge, 1 dc in next 4 tr, * (1 dc, 3 ch st, 1 dc) in next 1 ch st-sp (= between 4 tr), 1 dc in each of next 6 tr *, rep from * to * across length of front row, around bottom and up next side, ending with 1 dc in last 4 tr, 4 dc across next short edge of front side, 26 dc over laste square, sl st in 1st dc. C/off.
Sleeve edge
1st rnd: With Chilli, crochet 26 dc across each square, ending with sl st in 1st dc.
2nd rnd: 3 ch st, 1 tr in same st, 1 ch st, 2 tr in same st, skip 3 dc, 1 tr in each of next 2 dc, [skip 3 dc, (2 tr, 1 ch st, 2 tr) in next dc, skip 3 dc, 1 tr in each of next 2 dc] 11 times, sl st at top in beg-3 ch st. C/off.
3rd rnd: With Titanium, start in 1 ch st-sp between 4 tr: [(1 dc, 3 ch st, 1 dc) in the 1 ch st-sp, 1 dc in each of next 6 tr] 12 times, ending with sl st in 1st dc. C/off. Rep for other sleeve edge.
Finishing off
Work in all loose threads.
